Nordic Walking

* If you are interested in meeting me or learning more about Nordic Walking I will be at Saltash Sports on Saturday 1st May between 10am and 4pm. Stop by and have a chat! *

I am delighted to now be able to offer Nordic Walking classes in the Devon / Cornwall area.  I am a qualified Nordic Walking instructor with NWUK.

Why Nordic Walk?

Nordic Walking is one of the fastest growing fitness activities in Europe.  At first sight it looks like 'just walking with poles' but has many advantages over regular walking.

  • Uses the upper body as well as the legs, helping with toning and calorie burn.
  • Burns up to 46% more calories than regular walking.
  • Uses 90% of the bodies muscles.
  • Suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
  • Reduces the pressure on the knees and joints.
  • Helps relieve tension in the back and shoulders.
  • Builds fitness - Great for the heart and lungs.
  • Excellent cross-training activity for athletes and sports people - runners, triathletes, field-sports etc.
  • Fun and sociable - walk with your friends and family.

How do I get involved?

I am running regular taster sessions and technique improvment workshops - please see the calendar for dates and details.  If you are interested in signing up, please either call me or e-mail for more information.

Taster sessions last approximately 1 hour, and give you time to have a first experience with using the poles, and see how much fun it can be. After the session you will have the option to sign up for our 2-session improvement workshop, which allows you more time for longer walks to  perfect your Nordic Walking skill and receive individual feedack,  try some more advanced moves (faster walking, varied terrain, different pole techniqies), and learn more about correct warm-up, strength training with the poles, stretching etc.  Attendance on one of these courses is a pre-requisite for joining our regular programme of walks, as it ensures that everyone is of a similar standard and able to maximise the benefits of Nordic Walking.

Once you have completed the technique workshop you will be able to join in our programme of regular walks, which last between 1 and 2 hours several times per week throughout the year.  We will meet at different venues around the area to enable walkers to make new friends, visit different places and enjoy the wonderful outdoor environment here in the Devon and Cornwall. If I get a good level of demand, I hope to put on a series of 'special event' walks at exciting venues during the Spring and Summer months.
